Who is responsible for your information
PinSpanish is responsible for the processing described in this policy. Privacy questions and requests may be sent to hello@pinspanish.com.
Information processed on the website
Information you provide
If you contact PinSpanish by email, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, name, message, and any attachments.
Website and device information
The website and its service providers may process technical and usage information such as your IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, referring page, visited pages, interaction events, performance data, and error information. Server logs may also be created for security, diagnostics, and reliable delivery of the website.
Saved vocabulary
Words you save while reading are stored locally in your browser on your device. PinSpanish does not receive this vocabulary list. It remains until you remove it, clear the site’s stored data, or your browser removes it.
Why we use website information
- to provide, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the website;
- to understand how visitors use PinSpanish and improve its learning experience;
- to respond to messages and requests;
- to prevent misuse and protect the website; and
- to comply with legal obligations and establish or defend legal claims.
Depending on your location, processing may rely on your consent, PinSpanish’s legitimate interests in operating and improving the site, steps taken at your request, or compliance with a legal obligation. Where consent is the basis, you may withdraw it for future processing.
Website services that receive information
Microsoft Clarity
In production, PinSpanish uses Microsoft Clarity to understand website interactions through metrics, heatmaps, and session playback. Clarity may process interaction, diagnostic, device, and page information and may use cookies or similar technologies. Sensitive form content is designed to be masked by Clarity. Learn more in theMicrosoft Privacy Statement.
Google Fonts
The site requests font files from Google to display its typography. When this happens, Google receives technical request data such as your IP address and browser information. SeeGoogle’s Privacy Policy.
Hosting and infrastructure
Hosting, delivery, and security providers may process limited technical information on our behalf to make the website available and protect it. Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect legal rights, or in connection with a legitimate reorganization of the website.
PinSpanish browser extension
The practices in this section apply specifically to PinSpanish Chrome Extension. The extension processes limited website content and video references locally to provide its learning features. Processing information locally does not mean that PinSpanish receives it.
Purpose
PinSpanish Chrome Extension helps English-speaking students learn Spanish through interactive subtitles on YouTube videos. Spanish remains the primary language, and the user requests support in English when it is needed.
Information processed
When the extension is active on a YouTube video, it processes:
- Spanish captions provided by YouTube;
- words or phrases selected by the user;
- translations requested by the user;
- the video title;
- the video identifier and URL; and
- the timestamp associated with the caption.
The extension does not collect your complete browsing history. It works only on YouTube and retains a reference to a video only when needed to display captions or when the user explicitly saves vocabulary. These limited video references may be considered web history for Chrome Web Store disclosure purposes, but they are not a record of the user’s general browsing activity.
Translations
Translations are performed through Chrome’s built-in Translator API. PinSpanish does not send captions to an external translation provider. Chrome may download a browser-managed language pack. PinSpanish does not receive the translation model or transmit saved vocabulary during that download.
YouTube captions
The extension requests the Spanish caption track from YouTube’s timed-text service. This content is used only to display interactive captions. It is not used for advertising, profiling, analytics, or purposes unrelated to learning Spanish.
Locally saved vocabulary
Vocabulary is saved only when the user chooses “Save word” or “Save phrase.” A saved entry may contain:
- the Spanish word or phrase;
- its English meaning;
- the complete Spanish caption;
- an optional translation of the full caption line;
- the video title, URL, identifier, and timestamp; and
- the date it was saved.
This information is stored locally in IndexedDB within the user’s current Chrome profile. PinSpanish does not receive or keep a copy on a server. The user can delete individual entries, delete all vocabulary, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall the extension.
Extension preferences
The extension uses chrome.storage.local to save:
enabled: whether PinSpanish is active;showEnglish: whether full-line translations are shown;subtitleSize: the selected caption size; andvocabularyRevision: a local technical value used to refresh views after vocabulary is saved or deleted.
These preferences are not synchronized with a PinSpanish account and are not used for tracking.
Permissions
Access to https://www.youtube.com/* is necessary to read available captions, identify the current video, display the interactive overlay, and retain the context of saved vocabulary. The storage permission is used only for local preferences and coordination of saved vocabulary. The extension does not access sites other than YouTube.
No remote code, analytics, or unrelated data uses
The extension does not include analytics, advertising, or trackers. It does not execute remotely hosted code or load remote JavaScript, WebAssembly, CSS, or fonts. All code and dependencies are included within the extension package.
PinSpanish does not sell, rent, or share saved vocabulary. Information processed by the extension is not sold or transferred outside the permitted uses described in this policy, is not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending, and is not used for purposes other than helping the user learn Spanish with YouTube captions.
How the website and extension differ
Microsoft Clarity, Google Fonts, and the other providers described for the website are not loaded inside the extension. If the user opens a link to pinspanish.org from the extension, that website visit is covered by the website sections of this policy.
Website international processing and retention
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, appropriate contractual or legal safeguards are used for international transfers. Information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including legal, security, and record-keeping needs. Provider-controlled analytics data is retained according to the provider’s settings and retention periods.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of your personal information, and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. To make a request, email hello@pinspanish.com. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.
Children’s privacy
PinSpanish does not knowingly request personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the website or extension, contact us so the situation can be reviewed and appropriate action taken. Children should use the website and extension with the involvement of a parent or guardian where required by local law.
Security and policy updates
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. This policy may be updated to reflect changes to the website, extension, providers, or legal requirements. Material changes will be identified by a new effective date.
